3 things every onboarding flow must have

“We’re planning to scale with paid ads.”

“Cool. walk me through your onboarding.”

“We send a welcome email…”

This was a real call I had this week.

They’re a talented team with a solid product.

But only ONE welcome email? 🤦‍♂️

One thing I know from working with newsletter and creator businesses:

Onboarding isn’t about sending emails, it’s about proving value before someone forgets why they signed up.

Three things every onboarding flow needs:

1. Belonging – show them they’re in the right place

2. A quick win – solve their top problem fast, that’s why they came to you in the first place

3. Real human conversation – Don’t just send broadcasts, but start a dialogue.

Most teams skip all three.

And now with AI writing emails and people taking a shortcut, the only way to stand out is to actually be HUMAN and be someone who cares.

If someone signed up for your thing today, would they know you care by tomorrow?

Here’s to onboarding that’s human!
